Product FAQs

What pets can I keep in the cage?

The cage has been designed for hamsters and gerbils, and we don’t recommend keeping other animals in the cage, such as mice, rats or chinchillas.

Will it be easy to assemble?

Yes, all our products come with easy to follow instructions, and you can build along to our How to build videos. The cage will take roughly 40 minutes to assemble if you’re by yourself, slightly less if you have a helping hand.

What accessories come with the cage?

Every cage comes with a food bowl, a water bottle, a wheel, two compostable hides and a set of stickers.

Is the cage easy to clean?

Yes, we have designed the hamster cage with features that makes both daily spot cleaning and deep cleans a breeze. The large door gives good access when you need to remove soiled bedding or remove accessories for cleaning.

For bigger cleans, the mesh top and the bedding fender can easily be removed and wiped down, and the tray has smooth surfaces and curved edges that means no dirt can get stuck in nooks or corners of the cage.

What accessories do I need?

The cage comes with everything essential your pets will need: a large wheel, two compostable hides, a food bowl and a water bottle. It’s then up to you if you want to add extra enhancement.

A sand bath is great entertainment for your pets, and will help them stay clean. If your pet seems to like climbing or having a higher vantage point, the ramps and platforms will add an extra level to their home.

For outside the cage exercise and play, it’s important to have a safe space where your pets can run around; our foldable hamster playpen is great for this.

Are hamsters and gerbils good pets for children?

Hamsters and gerbils make great pets for children. They are small and sweet and form close relationships with their owners. They are relatively low maintenance, and all of the daily and weekly routines are easy to do for both adults and children.

Young children should however never be the sole carer of a pet, it’s too much of a responsibility to make sure all their needs are met and that they are happy and healthy.

Will my pet be safe?

Our Hamster Cage is made with strong, non-toxic materials and considered design features to keep your pets safe and secure.

The plastic bedding fender above the base prevents climbing, and the tight, strong mesh stops both break ins and breakouts.

How much bedding do I need to fill the tray?

You need 70-80L of bedding to fill the tray.

The height of the bedding depends on the size of your pet and how many accessories you have in the cage, but don’t fill it over half the height of the bedding fender, as your pet will then be able to kick the bedding out and potentially climb up on the mesh.

How often should I clean my hamster cage?

Do a round of spot cleaning daily. This is where you pick up soiled bedding or other visible dirt without removing too much bedding.

Clean the accessories (the wheel, the bowl and any tunnels etc.) once a week with a wet cloth and pet safe disinfectant.

Then do a full deep clean once a month, where you wipe down the whole cage and replace the bedding.

Are hamsters and gerbils noisy?

In themselves, these small pets are very quiet, and won’t keep you up at night. Although you might notice some rustling while they burrow in the bedding, all the features of the cage have been designed to minimise noise to the point where it can easily be kept in a bedroom.

The main feature is the wheel. Forget the screeching, rattling wheels that many people associate with cages for small animals. This wheel is specially designed to run smoothly without any noise, so your pets can exercise throughout the night without waking you up.

How do I clean the storage basket?

The optional storage basket is made from rPET felt and we recommended that you vacuum and wipe it with a damp cloth if needed.

What are the internal dimensions of the cage?

Internal cage length: 85cm
Internal cage width: 55cm
Bedding tray minimum burrow depth: 16cm
Continuous floor area: 4,675 cm2
Distance between the cage bars: 0.8cm
