Verified Reviews for Omlet Walk In Chicken Run

Incomplete boxes, poor customer service
Larry,
Do not buy this chicken run. The included instructions and the video do not help construction when numerous pieces are missing. Customer service simply refers you to watch the video of a guy building the run in a living room. Unless you have lots of time to waste trying to assemble an incomplete kit and being dismissed by customer service, do not buy this. I spent $1,800, can't complete the 13x9 run, and have to figure out how to ship it back to Omlet. Avoid this company.

Beware: NOT snake proof!!
Emma,
We were so excited to get our walk in chicken run and thought our chickens would be safe and secure, so you can imagine our devastation when we found a 2m carpet python strangling our mama hen a couple of weeks ago. I was in disbelief that the run could have failed but we realised quickly enough that the snake could easily fit through the holes in the upper wire panels. We now have chicks to hand-raise, a run that is not predator-proof and we have lost our favourite hen. Very upsetting for the kids! I feel so disappointed because up until now I've been really happy with Omlet products, but I can't get past why the run isn't made from smaller snake-proof mesh.

Dear Emma, Thank you for taking the time to bring your experience to our attention. We are sorry to hear of the loss of your hen and we understand how difficult this must be for your family. As indicated in our FAQ, the lower half mesh is 25 x 75mm, and the upper half mesh and the roof panels are 50 x 75mm. Our engineers designed the panels in this way for safety reasons related to the weight and structure of the run. While the strong materials and thought-out design makes it extremely hard for predators to get to your pets, unfortunately no run is 100% predator proof. For our customers living in regions with specific types of predators able to fit in the dimensions of the mesh, we would recommend adding an extra layer of smaller mesh around the roof and the top panels to prevent these predators from going inside the run. Nevertheless, we understand that every product can be enhanced, which is why your experience has been shared with our Product Design Team, and further investigations will be done in order to try to improve our walk-in runs even more. We extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family, and we remain at your disposal for any query. Yours, The Omlet Customer Services team
Poor design
Mark,
Having spent over a thousand pounds on a chicken run and egul, I am really disappointed that the design is flawed, so rats can easily get in and out. I purchased the run because we of the strong wire and skirt around the outside would stop the rats. I even buried extra wire under the ground of the run to stop them tunneling in it but it was all a waste of time and money. The rats just use the wire sides as a ladder to get half way up, where the gaps in the wire are twice as large so they can get through. The only way to stop this is to make the whole run the same sized wire as the lower part.

Hi Mark, Thank you for your feedback. It has been passed on to our Product Design team who will take it in consideration for future improvements. Unfortunately, rats are indeed able to squeeze themselves into small spaces, and an external solution would have to be found to keep them away. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any question. I wish I had never heard of this company
Audrey, Florida,
The pole clips are very hard to fasten at least 4/5 of the time. I have to fiddle and fiddle with them. August in Florida is not the best time to be doing this (ordered in April). I just finished my 4th day of working on it for 4 hours straight. I am far from finished. My husband heard of Omlet on NPR at least 15 years ago and I have wanted one ever since. Boy was I wrong. Kit is well put together. Some extra plugs for the poles would be nice. Please let me be finished with this run Hell. I think I have been working on it my whole life.

Not Biosecure
Alex,
Due to the larger mesh size in the top half of the run small birds such as Robins can get into the run meaning it is not Biosecure. Quite simply this is not good enough. Why are Omlet selling products that do not meet basic DEFRA guidelines. The runs should be supplied with the smaller mesh panels all over, not just the bottom half.

Omlet response:
Thank you for your feedback. As the current situation is not an everyday issue, the bigger mesh sizes on the top don´t usually cause for any concern. The DEFRA guidelines have been set for this specific outbreak of the avian flu and are not a general guideline for outdoor runs. To make the run secure, we offer a variety of covers, that are flexible, removable and will offer the needed security for your chickens. Your birds will be protected with the addition of those covers and a smaller mesh size would still require you to cover the roof, to avoid bird droppings falling into the run.
